However, companies face a\u00a0couple of issues that\u00a0 limit the effectiveness of such alert notifications. These limits are\u00a0often related to\u00a0the notification channels in use. However, reliability and persistence\u00a0are mandatory in business critical scenarios.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Good old email?<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough most IT\u00a0and business management systems (e.g.\u00a0Microsoft System Center, HP Software)\u00a0have the ability to send notifications via email, email is the least effective notification channel. Through it\u00a0is easy to set up and often built-in\u00a0but it\u00a0is simply not persistent enough &#8211; in particular persistent in terms of generating attention of the recipient. The common perception of\u00a0email as an asynchronous way of communicating, due to spam and other factors,\u00a0sensitivity towards emails in terms of criticality and timely response\u00a0is\u00a0(too) low.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is SMS text better?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt is proven that SMS text is penetrating\u00a0into our &#8222;private sphere&#8220; a lot better and that\u00a0people respond with greater attention towards a received text message.\u00a0That is why SMS text is used by a growing number of organizations for critical alert notifications. Nonetheless, during nighttime or in noisy environments\u00a0an SMS text message\u00a0will likely\u00a0go unnoticed. Sleep is rarely\u00a0interrupted by a single or even double\u00a0but short\u00a0vibration. To make the plea for SMS text even weaker\u00a0&#8211; if the notifying system is\u00a0unable to track delivery and\u00a0to request an active\u00a0reply\u00a0from the alerted\u00a0person (i.e. an acknowledgement),\u00a0such text message\u00a0is not effective enough. Depending on the criticality of the alert notification,\u00a0results might be disastrous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best practice and most effective<\/strong><br \/>\nThat is why\u00a0most\u00a0companies in the field\u00a0at least combine text and automated voice calls (ideally with text-to-speech) in order to\u00a0set up\u00a0a highly effective notification method.\u00a0Ultimately, the job is to wake up a person on call during nighttime. So, if the SMS text message(s) goes unnoticed, an additional\u00a0voice call is made automatically, alerting the\u00a0on-call person\u00a0in a much more persistent manner. A voice call can of course also be made repetitively until it is picked up. And finally, additional communication channels can be added, e.g. push\u00a0or instant messaging, providing an even better and more context-aware communication. An alert broadcast on all channels is technical also possible by selected\u00a0alert notification\u00a0systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advanced notification software needed<\/strong><br \/>\nThe bespoke best practice solution is backed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.derdack.com\/en\/mission-critical-notifications-and-mobile-response\/\" target=\"_blank\">automated notification systems<\/a> that\u00a0can manage multi-modal notifications and in particular can track the delivery of notifications.
